Switch-mode power supplies are widely used today due to their low weight, high efficiency and small size. Unfortunately, most of them are poorly filtered - resulting in high frequency switching noise. Although the noise components are way above the hearing range, they can produce inter modulation components - that result in a higher noise floor of the audio gear. DSP based guitar pedals can also suffer from these high frequency noises, especially when they are close to the main system clock frequency. This can result in strange behavior of the pedal.
Linear regulated power supplies are much better choice for audio devices, since they don't produce any switching noise. But, the output filter and regulation stage in most of these power supplies is designed to filter only the mains frequency (50/60Hz) and other low frequency ripple, and will not do a very good job filtering high frequency components coming from the mains. The PSF-2 power supply filter is specially designed to address these issues. Two "PI" networks combined with EMI suppression filter, attenuates these high frequency components to minimum levels.
